The Gate Project

This shitty old gate has been in need of replacement for years. So this year... dad got a Xmas present. The best kind - the kind that keeps giving... Dogs stay out, children stay in... the best kind of gate..

Rotten to pieces. No latch, hinges almost rusted through. Oh, and it didn't hang anymore, it sat on the ground.

The old shitter. I mean come on... look at it!

My favourite bit! The stopper which supports the gate when it slams closed. And a new latch.. nice.. Both the latch and the stopper had to be drilled into concrete, then dynabolted in. Should be able to handle the stiffest Wellington breeze!

This bit was tricky! The old hinges were hacksawed off. Then new holes were drilled with a borrowed masonary drill. Then the bolts were chemically glued in. And as the post is not level, the hinges had to be set at a certain angle to make the whole thing work.

Tada! A gate... it opens, it closes! Just like... a gate!

And there she is! It didn't take too long to lay the pickets out and build the gate, but did take a bit of cunning to get the peaked shape on the top. A good result though.

The finished project. Nice. :-)
