Wading Through Caverns

Location: Ko Yao Noi, Thailand

We relax and recharge in the beautiful islands of Southern Thailand with a base at Ko Yao Noi, a tiny muslim island in the Andaman Sea.

8 Feb 2007, 3:55PM

Our tuk tuk driver, Amon and the local gas station. The pink one is high test and the yellow is regular. This is pretty fancy compared to the ones we find later in the week-old fanta bottles filled with gas that you pour in yourself at the roadside.

8 Feb 2007, 2:51PM

Tim and Jennifer with the wind in their hair on the ferry ride over to the island.

10 Feb 2007, 3:28PM

What better view for John than this...the sky and sea through the hammock and Emily's bright little face peeking in.

9 Feb 2007, 9:52AM

A local woman digs for clams with a stick in front of our bungalow. It took her hours to get this many until Jennifer and Timmy went out to lend her a hand.

11 Feb 2007, 2:29PM

Finding starfish in the shallow water of a lagoon completely hemmed in by limestone cliffs.

11 Feb 2007, 1:09PM

A giant rope swing on one of the outer islands. The man in the water shack, after hearing of our teaching work in Si Saket, invited us to do the same in his town. Tempting...

12 Feb 2007, 1:05PM

Chris and Jennifer wade in from the sea and enter the cave, the only access to a spectacular mangrove lagoon.

12 Feb 2007, 12:07PM

Wondering what a longtail boat looked like? Wonder no more...and know that with the scarf fluttering in front and the smell of teak all around you, there's no better way to travel.

12 Feb 2007, 2:10PM

Remember that classic James Bond film, "The Man With The Golden Gun" Here's the spot they made it...now named 'James Bond Island'

12 Feb 2007, 1:28PM

Lek, the friendly boatman who we spent several days with, winds our longtail through the cavern.
