What’s Hard About Getting Everyone’s Attention
by Emily
At Narayan Seva, an Orphanage in Sawan I taught the 1st and 2nd graders in the afternoons with Jenny. The 1st Graders were mostly wild boys who play kick, fight, and punch! So when I’m trying to teach a 2nd grade girl who’s trying to learn the little boys go up and bug her by giving her a light slap on the face. Then the girl gets up and I’ve lost my student I’m trying to teach. So as you can imagine it got really hectic in meditation hall where the kids were supposed to be doing math problems. I was thinking in my head, break it uuuuuup! The first day I taught that class, did not go that well for me , I came back to the room worrying about doing the class the next day. I told my parents about how crazy it was and they gave me some things I could do to get that to stop and have it be a quiet non-fighting time. I ended up going to sleep feeling good about class the next day!
