Location: Travel back to Kahama, Tanzania

MapWednesday, September 29th, 2011

We were picked up at five this morning and taken to our bus, which was the size of a greyhound. There was a little problem with our seats, they had double-booked them, but since we were sitting in them first, we won out. A few dozen extra people crammed into the isles of the bus and we set off for the long trip home.

The going is rough on the dirt roads when you’re sitting down, so I don’t know how the people standing for so long handled the trip. It was uneventful (thank God!) and it only took 9 hrs 45 min to get to Kahama. A few hours before arriving there, a young man got up and starting speaking very loudly to everyone on the bus. I thought he was some kind of lunatic but Daudi told me that he was ``in marketing.`` What I was watching was a live commercial that went on forever as he displayed different products from toothpaste to cleaning supplies. With very little of the population watching TV or buying magazines, this is apparently their version of a commercial or product ad.

After rolling into town and showering 10 layers of red dust off me, Glen, Twyla and I headed over to the Pineridge to meet up with Rob and Berit. It was funny to realize I was happy to be `home!``
