Brenda’s Travel Diary

Location: Kigali, Rwanda

Yesterday, went to a genocide memorial. Did pretty good till I got to the children's memorial floor, then had a little melt down. Had to leave the building but that's okay. I can only do what I can. So sad! I'm okay now though. I am still glad I went.

After that we visited the market and bought stuff to bring back and sell for fundraising.

We had Brenda's Bday party last night. She was so happy and surprised at all the things that were brought for her. We went to Hotel Rwanda for dinner for her Bday. They had a Reggae band and sang Happy Birthday to her. Then the locals also sang to her. I know she had a good time. So did I but I was sooo tired!!

Today we went to volunteer at a race for peace for children. We just signed up to volunteer yesterday. The children were running. I visited so many wonderful kids and some spoke English very well. It was fun until after the race when children started to stampede for their medals and water!

Now, I am at an internet cafe checking all my messages. Just had a burger and coffee (bit tired today) Going to take it easy tonight as tomorrow some of us are going 30 min out of Kigali to visit people Brenda knows and to see another genocide setting at a church. Rylan and I may stay and help with the mud brick house instead.

It is so different here than anything I am used to. We have only been here for 3 days in Kigali and already it has already been one of the best experiences of my life!
