MapHi Everyone,

It's Thursday today and I go home tomorrow!!! I can't wait to get home and see you all!!! I wish I wasn't getting in so late, I won't be able to visit anyone until Sunday.

On Tuesday, Julia and I thought we'd go down and sit in on the Rwandan Tribunals. It turns out that they are not in session until the middle of August. We walked around the UN building , just to say we've been there and then did some shopping. I was really disappointed that we couldn't observe the Tribunals and then after we got back to out hotel, we met this couple, Svetlana and VJ. She from Russia and has been working at the Tribunals for a few years. She had a lot of really interesting information on what takes place there. (A lizard just crawled over the keyboard's hard to get used to these things!!) We hung out by the pool yesterday afternoon and then went out for dinner together so I had a lot of opportunity to talk to her.

We also met another couple who have been working at a hospice for people with AIDs. The people that usually volunteer weren't going to be there yesterday so Julia and I offered to go and help out. There are 2 women who are in the finals stages of the disease and 12 children. The youngest one, Connie is under a year old. Her parents have both died of Aids.
They put me to work washing laundry for four hours, (it wasn't with an automatic washer!), I helped look after Connie and I fed one of the bedridden women. I have never seen anyone that sick and still alive. She is so skinny that when they rolled her over, you could hear her bones rattle against each other. It was so sad to look at all of the little children knowing that they will eventually look like her. I gave them the rest of my gifts to hand out to the children and one hundred dollars to buy some supplies. They are quite desperate for funding so were very grateful. The couple here who hooked us up with the hospice are helping to write a proposal for St. Lucias to apply for some grant money. They are also making a documentary that they'll use for fundraising back in the States.

I don't have much else to say.......I'll log on before I leave tomorrow.......see you all soon.......Brenda
